    Delivering on the Promise

When introducing income protection planning to new advisors my good friend, Kevin Quinn, often tells the story of his first job out of college. He paid disability income claims for Paul Revere Insurance Company. Kevin will tell you that he learned valuable lessons from the claimants in those years. He heard the same two things from almost every claimant. First, they would say “I am glad my agent made me buy this policy.” Second, “I wish I had just bought more.”

Advisors and carriers lay down an important commitment to the public when entering the income protection market. They promise to guard the financial well being of their clients. They promise to fulfill the financial obligations of the policies written and they promise to educate the next generation of advisors who “make” their clients buy income protection.

With this in mind, our 2019 IDIS Conference theme will be “Delivering on the Promise.” Join us October 21st through 23rd in San Diego. The conference will be a half day shorter than in the past but still full of the same content you value. We will have room blocks available for a few days before and after the conference in case you want to have a longer stay in beautiful San Diego.  Watch for sponsorship and registration information coming soon -- our goal is to open registration in early May through the website.

As you know, Disability Income Awareness Month is upon us. During May we will be introducing our nominations for the Harold Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award and the Ron Cohen Scholarship. Don’t miss our May 23 webinar and be on the lookout for more conference details coming soon.

Thank you for all you do for your clients and our industry.

April Study Group is Tomorrow, April 25th

    Presenter: Tanya Wasielewski, Guardian

Topic: Why I Do What I Do

Description: Hear how a devastating stroke affected the lives of one family when the husband/father became permanently disabled at the age of 46. Learn about not only the financial impact it had (and continues to have), but the psychological and emotional impact a debilitating disability can have on everyone from family members to friends.

Tanya began her career at Guardian in 2004, where she was the Internal Wholesaler for Long Term Care before making the move to Individual Disability Internal Wholesaler in 2012. Shortly after beginning her career with Guardian, her husband David suffered a massive stroke at the age of 46 that left him permanently disabled and no longer able to continue working. Tanya has shared David’s story to demonstrate that disability can and does happen to anyone.
A graduate of San Diego State University and native San Diegan, Tanya, her husband David and son Jake relocated to the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts in 2000. Today, they continue to live in Dalton, MA along with their rescue dogs and cats.
