Council for Disability Income Awareness
The Council for Disability Income Awareness (CDIA) is a non-profit organization committed to informing and educating the American public about the increasing prevalence of disabilities and their financial implications. They provide valuable resources and information to wage earners, their families, the media, employers, and partner organizations, including the International DI Society. The objective is to educate those concerned about disabilities and their devastating effects on the finances and lifestyles of American families.
You, disabled? What are your chances?
Higher than you probably think. Chances of missing work due to illness, injury, or pregnancy are greater than most realize.
-
Just under 1 in 4 of today's 20 year-olds can expect to be out of work for at least a year because of a disabling condition before they reach the normal retirement age.
-
At least 51 million working adults in the United States are without disability insurance other than the basic coverage available through Social Security.
- Nearly 4 out of 10 American adults indicate they can't pay an unexpected $400 bill without carrying a balance on their credit card or borrowing money from friends, family, or the bank.
Are you prepared if it happens to you? Probably not. If you're like most Americans, you don't have disability insurance. Or enough emergency savings to last 31.2 months. Yes, that's the duration of the average long-term disability claim.
If you become disabled, will you be ready? Or will you and your loved ones face serious financial hardship, possibly foreclosure and even bankruptcy? Good news. The Council for Disability Awareness can assist you just as you prepare for other emergencies. Here's how.
