December 2023 Newsletter

President's Report

I hope you had a fantastic Holiday Season, that you were able to spend time with loved ones, and that Santa brought you all the presents you asked for! We have many things to be grateful and thankful for, such as an incredible industry that allows us to really help our clients, while in return, compensates us very well to do so.

We also want to express our sincere thanks to Steve Woods, for his inspiring leadership as President this past year. We have some big shoes to fill, and our new Board is already working on some exciting things for this year that we will be sharing with you soon. We are especially grateful to Joe Pittman, our Executive Director, for his work to help our International DI Society to grow and prosper.

For 2023 to be successful, we all need to set some inspiring and meaningful goals. For the IDIS, we also have some important goals!  Continuing to grow our membership is our number one goal and it is something that each of you can help us reach! I would like to challenge each of you to help recruit one new member. This is something that each of us can do as we share with associates how important it is to support the one organization that supports us in this most important income protection, as well as how IDIS has helped us to grow and develop personally. Our biggest key to our success this year is sharing the message of IDIS with other professionals in our industry. Our Board of Directors has discussed this topic many times and we are working on how to continue to grow our organization and spread the great news on what DI does for people that are too sick or too hurt to work.

Study Group Webinars

"Successor to the Wild Kingdom: A New Policy is Born!"

Join us for the first study group of the year to hear from Travis Tangeman, Product Director and Actuary Income and Wealth Planning Solutions at Mutual of Omaha. Travis will reveal the details of how a new policy series is made, why it was made, and where the market is going.

In his position at Mutual of Omaha, he provides management and direction for individual critical illness and disability income product lines.

Tangeman joined Mutual as a Managing Actuary in 2014. He held several positions including Managing Actuary for the individual long-term care product line prior to being promoted to his current position in October 2018. Before joining the company, he was an actuary with Lincoln Financial Group.

Tangeman earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.
